It is an old picture but happy she is out.
This past weekend my hero, Aung San Suu Kyi, was released after house arrest in Burma. She was placed under arrest after winning the 1990 elections in Burma. When she won, the military junta was afraid and arrested her. She has been under house arrest for 15 of the last 20 years. The military released her after they “won” the national election through no opposition.
What I find amazing about her is the depth of her compassion for others even those who have hurt her the most. She believes that no one is free until they are free from fear. She has called on for open talks with the military leader something she has advocated in the past but hopefully the military will take up this time. The country, from what I have read, is in shambles due to poverty with the military taking all the riches of the country for themselves.
I hope she can help to build a free and democratic country of Burma with more wealth for its people.
