The one thing that bins this country together is the train. People use the tracks as an easier way to walk between places in Colombo since the roads are crowded with cars and tri-wheeled carts. The trains themselves are from the 1950’s and haven’t stopped since. People ride in them and hang on the outsides of them when it is too crowded.

This morning I took a two and a half hour one to Kandy. The ride was bumpy. The seat was hard but oddly comfortable. It was a direct train so there were few stops. It was mostly locals but the tourist, like me, took up their fare share. People with curried filled pasteries and sweet milk tea, would walk up and down the ails.

The views were stunning and I took too many pictures. I can’t wait to go back on for my next trip.
