I headed into Central Hong Kong. The bus was packed with people and I had to stand. I was listening to my favorite podcast, The Dan Lebatard Show and this edition they had Pat Sajak, from the Wheel of Fortune. It was really funny as it always is. There was a part of the show that kind of got to me. It is when Sajak was talking about the thousands of people who come up to him and say “my mom or my grandma use to watch your show.”

It got to me because it reminded of my grandmother, Phyllis Sanders who passed away almost 10 years ago now. She loved that show and watched it religiously. The game is easy. You spin a wheel and then you have to guess letters to solve a word or phrase based on a clue. She loved playing scrabble so it is very similar. She use to watch it all the time as part of her “TV time.” She lived with us for a bit and would always watch it. I never understood it as a kid but looking back on it I can now understand why she liked it. It was a three hour interview with Sajak but just that simple part reminded me so much.

When she passed away, I remember the paster saying “people are only dead when you don’t remember them or stop talking about them.” Today I was reminded and I am a bit sad she is not around but there is nothing I can do about that so I am happy I can remember her. I can remember a bit about how happy she was when she got the answer.
