Thousands of pro-democracy demonstrators gathered in front of the Hong Kong Government’s Headquarters late tonight after the talks between the two sides, scheduled for today, were cancelled at the last moment.
The gathering is the largest this week as the crowds in Admiralty were low at the beginning of the week before the talks were cancelled. The Hong Kong Student Federation and Occupy Central groups called on the people of Hong Kong to show their support for calling on the government negotiate for more democratic reforms then offered by the Central Government in Beijing.
Speeches giving thanks to supporters and asking for continued support in the struggle were made at the main stage and broadcast, via close circuit TV to sites around Admiralty, Mong Kok, and Causeway Bay while people sat on the pavement and listened quietly. The atmosphere was peaceful and determined to call for more talks and more reforms for Hong Kong
