I miss Japan
It has been a week since the Earthquake and Tsunami ripped through Japan. Since then there has been nuclear threats, fear, and a whole host of other problems. The news has been dominated by these stories.
My relationship with Japan started in 2003 when I met a guy and kind of fell in love. It was the first country I went to after arriving in Korea. His name was Koji Somato. He showed me around Osaka, Kyoto and Nara. He showed me the back allies of these cities and how normal people live their lives. We broke up due to language issues but I continued to go back to Japan. The more I saw the more I was surprised and the more I loved the country. I took a history course through Harvard about Japanese History and Literature. The more I learned the more I liked it.
During this tragedy, I have read a lot but can’t watch the TV news since it breaks my heart. If I watch NHK for a minute, my heart sinks and I have to change it immediately. I have a friend from the area but he is living in Seattle. His family is still there and I worry about his family a lot.
