The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year

This has to be the second best time of the year. The best for me is usually in September with the beginning of school, and the cooler weather (at least in Canada and Korea not so much for Hong Kong). This is a great time for a few reasons. The biggest reason is for the NHL and NBA play offs start.

One of the biggest things I miss about Korea is a bar called Rocky Mountain Tavern, where I would hang out and watch playoff hockey and meet some new people. It is great to go to a place where everyone knows your name and you can meet new friends easily. At RMT everyone is united by NHL Play Off Hockey. I don’t have a team anymore. I use to root for the Montreal Canadiens but only because all my friends were Toronto Maple Leaf fans and I liked to get into arguments when I was in high school. Now a days, I just like watching the speed and finesse of hockey. I also like a good fight once and a while. I haven’t seen hockey at all this season since there isn’t a place to watch it. Hong Kong is all about “british sports” (soccer/football, rugby, cricket). This year the Vancouver Canucks are supposed to win it all. If so, it will be the first time since 1994 a Canadian team has won the Stanley Cup.

The NBA has been interesting this year because of the whole Miami Heat thing. LaBron James and Chris Bosh went there to win a championship and everyone is wondering if they are going to win. I listen to a talk show out of Miami called the Dan LeBatard (http://www.790theticket.com/lebatard.aspx) show and it’s always the main topic. I just want to see if they win or hopefully they will get knocked out in the first round.

Yes as a sports fan, this is the best time of the year.
