Old Time Shave

(pic to come)

I hate shaving. My skin BURNS. I get huge red blotches on my face after shaving. Lately my skin has been pealing around the area where I shave. It has been annoying. When I was in Canada, I always loved an “old time shave”

On Saturday I went to the Ambassador Beauty Salon (23 Lan Fong Rd., Causeway Bay Hong Kong ). The place was what I was looking for. The average age of the barbers was about 71 years old. The posters on the walls were from the 1970’s. There was a lot of character in the place.

It started with the steaming hot towels being placed gently on my face. There was one after another after another.  Then there was a bit of shaving cream followed by a few more hot towels. The barber sharpened the single edge blade and began the process of shaving. I could feel the pull of the blade on my face. It tore a bit but I had 4 days of growth on my face. My face felt on fire because of the towels and the shave itself. After the shaving was done, there were more towels. The purpose of the towels are to take away the pain in the shaving. He did a few touch ups then I was done.

The results were my red blotches were still there. My face was not as burning as before but I was looking a lot better than before.
