Small Parts Of A Big City

The village mail boxes.

Hong Kong looks like a huge massive urban jungle. In some areas it is but a majority of the city is country side with lush green mountains. There are some smaller villages beyond the tall buildings. It is these parts that I enjoy exploring. Today I went to a small village called Lung Yeuk Tau (龍躍頭) near Fanling MTR station.

I was there alone for the most part. There weren’t any tourists. The buildings were old and some of them were falling down. The villages themselves were surrounded by lush green grass and bushes. The greenery is unkempt and raw. I love small Chinese villages because I feel they are disappearing so often due to development. These villages are also being going away to be replaced by condos as the demand for more and better housing continues.

Walking around made me want to live there. It is so quiet. The buildings are small, only four floors with big balconies. The only sounds were birds, and other animals. The only problem is it is far from anywhere. I need to be around people. It is a nice place to visit, but I wouldn’t want to live there unless I had someone to live with.
