Chill Kunming

The first stop of my Yunnan adventure is the provincial capital of Kunming. A typical dusty Chinese city of a few million. They are building a subway and re-building the old parts for tourists. I went to the Bamboo Temple on the edge of town and up a few hills. I took a few pictures then spent 4 hours drinking green tea and watching a few turtles cross the grounds. It was so peaceful and relaxing. I’m at the Cloudland International Youth Hostel. It’s ok. They don’t know about service. The small things tick me off; no toilet paper in the bathroom; no smiles or anything like that. Worst of all: it has bed bugs. The temperature is 10 to 20C. I’m not sweating for a change. I just hope I miss the rain. Off to Lijiang tonight.
