Dancing in Hongdae

In Seoul most of the big clubs are located in this small area with about 4 universities around it. The area is called Hongdae and it is the “party” place for most of people. When I first came to Korea, this is where I would hang out the most with my fellow co-workers. In the second and third year, it would be the same. Recently, I haven’t hung out here in a long time because most of my friends like to center in the foreign district of Itaewon

This past weekend, I took my co-worker and my friend Mandy to go take a look. It has been AGES since I have been back there and I am beginning to wonder why it took so long. In the center of Hongdae there is a small park. It use to be that most of the people there were Korean now I would say it is the reverse with most of the people being Korean. The park is where some impromptu musicians and artists would do their thing. Usually I would meet people there, hang out for a while, and meet some strangers before moving on to the club. This weekend was no different. We met a nice French, an Argentinian and a Korean who where in the city for a conference. There were a few street performers (which is where I took the video).

We then hit the clubs and it was soooo nice to dance again. I felt like I lost about 10 lbs dancing away the night. The music was House or electronic and I had a great time with my co-worker. By the time it was time to go, I was drenched in sweat. I felt good and alive. The French, Argentina and Korean guys had left and Mandy was up for more dancing. It was 3 AM and I took them to the Hookah bar I love so much to relax and talk. It was just as good as the dancing. It is always nice to be in a calm cool place with friends and trying to solve the issues and problems of others.

We decided to head to Jongno, and there was this nice guy I have been trying to meet. He asked me to meet up with him in Wangshimni and I promised I would. He then messaged me back that it wouldn’t be a good idea due to the time (it was 3 am). I hope to meet him the next weekend.

The night was one of the first times, in a long time, that I saw the dark sky turn to blue. I had a great night, and I am looking forward to doing it again soon.
