Two Weekends of Camping and Hiking

Sok Kwu Wan (Picnic Bay) on Lamma Island.

This weekend I went to Lamma Island off the coast of Central. I took a quick ferry there. I really enjoy being on or near water a lot. I love the smell of the sea breeze and hear the crash of the waves. The ferry took me to a small village called Yung Shue Wan (Banyan Bay) and then I hiked two hours to the second ferry pier at Sok Kwu Wan (Picnic Bay). The path was nice going through some nice small restaurants and shops. It went past a nice beach. The problem with the beach was it was beside a huge electricity plant. The path then went up through some hills but they weren’t that steep. The only thing I regretted was I wore jeans instead of shorts. I was a bit hot and sweaty. I met a really nice girl from Turkey. She is new to Hong Kong and hope to build a nice friendship with her.

Camping at Tai Long Wan (Big Wave bay) near Sai Kang

Two weeks ago I went camping at Tai Long Wan (Big Wave Bay) near Sai Kang. Getting there was a bit painful since was a bit steep to hike for someone as out of shape as me. In order to get to the beach, one has to hike about an hour and a half to get there. Getting to the top of the mountain was great with the view but a killer to get too. I also packed too much stuff such as a lot of warm clothing that I never really used. If I make it back, I need to remember to pack a bit lighter. It was still hot even thought it was the end of November. The 2010 Hong Kong Surfing competition was going on thus there were tones of people around camping and on the beach. On the first night there was a big bonfire with people from all over cooking some food and having a bit to drink. The food and fire were both great. It was also nice to be with some friends.

I woke up early at 8 am. I didn’t sleep that much since it was in a tent but I did feel good with the warm breeze. The tent was really hot and I was sweeting due to the heat. I got up and headed to the beach. My friends wanted to go on an easy hike and I went along. The hike was pretty good but I stopped in the middle. I sat and drank some water and appreciating the view. A bit later, I hiked back to the boat. The hike back to the boat was great since a majority of it was down hill. I found it good on my feet and legs. The boat back to Sai Kang was also really good with the cool breeze on my face. It was such a good weekend.
