HK Art FEST!

An artist working on his instillation at the Art Festival

I had such a good time at the Hong Kong International Art Festival held that the HK Convention Centre in Wanchi. There were tones and tones of pieces but it was a bit overwhelming at times. There were just too much to see. After a while they all seemed to blend into nothingness.

The crowd at the Convention Centre was very arty and trendy. There were a lot of people drinking Champaign but the thing that I found most striking was the sign outside the main hall that read “No Photography” yet I think I was the only one in the entire building without a camera. Everyone was taking pictures almost in front of signs that read no picture taking. It was funny.

I got to talk to a German artist about his day. He said he had about 5 hours sleep in four days. He had a bottle of Champaign under his desk. The creations he had were interesting and very modern. He was from Cologne. I didn’t get his name but found him interesting to talk to. There were a lot of Korean art galleries represented and what I found was I knew they were Korean by looking at the themes and not at the sign telling me it was Korean. I also saw some Japanese galleries as well and it was the same kind of thing. It is funny how there is a national creative culture at least in these kind of massive art shows. There were that stepped out of the norm and it was those that I found most interesting.
