Day After

Day After

Sep 29, 2014 | Hot Takes

I woke up from a sleep which felt like it lasted forever. I went out from my home and found this. Yellow ribbons were tied around most of the poles around my apartment in Tai Po. The ribbons are a symbol of the protest movement here in Hong Kong.

While I slept, thousands more crowded Central, Admiralty, Causeway Bay, Mong Kok. Not a single car was overturned nor a police officer assaulted. The crowd, I read, continued to be filled with peace and love. There was one who raced his car through a crowd but luckily no one was injured.

The government has rightly pulled back from using tear gas and riot police. As we are about to enter on a two day holiday, the feeling seems to be more festive but for how long? (at 88 Square)
