Election time in Canada

It has been more than two years so there is another federal election back home for May 2. This is being fought for almost nothing. There is no big huge issue which needs to be solved. It is as if the election is just for power and nothing else. Canada has been plagued by minority governments, which means no one party has a clear majority, and this has led to a rash of elections in the past 10 years.

From 1996-2003 I was indirectly or directly involved in every election happening in and around Toronto. These were municipal, provincial, federal and numerous by-elections when a representative resigns his seat in the house. Elections are stressful, tiring but they are fun. They bind people together with a common cause or belief. Working in an election is a great time to meet new people and be exposed to interesting people as well.

The last election I worked on was in 2007 for the Ontario Provincial Election. I worked for a local candidate I had a lot of fun but I wouldn’t want to do it again. I was involved to heavily and now I just don’t want to be involved. With my job here in HK, I don’t have the time to help. I still have a lot of friends who are involved in campaigns and I do wish them all the best.
